Bruce Beren - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2023. Bruce was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1941. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy Beren.

He attended West Milwaukee High School, UW-Madison, and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. He served honorably in the Wisconsin Air National Guard. Professionally, he was Certified Public Accountant and worked for Rielly Penner & Benton, Universal Foods, and Cousins Subs.

Bruce’s father Thaddeus (Teddy) Beren started attending Camp Charles Allis on Lake Beulah as a teenager, taking the electric trolley from Milwaukee out to East Troy back in the 1920s. Teddy returned summer after summer to the camp for over 40 years and shared his love of Lake Beulah with his son, Bruce. In 1967, Ted and his wife, Sylvia, started renting a cottage on South Shore Drive from Mrs. Porter. Bruce and Judy purchased their own cottage for the family on East Shore Drive in 1979.

Bruce first started racing C-Scows (B-55 and B-66) in 1965 with Jim and John Grau as crew. Thereafter, he switched to sailing MCs (488, 1307, and 2060). He was the chief judge for the 4th of July Poor Boat Race for many years.

Bruce enjoyed pontoon boat rides, relating stories while slowly circling the lake and nearly clipping piers. Later in life, the sunny view from the cottage’s porch was his favorite spot to watch the activities out on the water. He especially enjoyed seeing all the sailing school kids out in front of the cottage.

Bruce is survived by his children Jason (Erin), Kurt, Kimberly (Gregory), Keith, and Brian, and his two grandchildren Kate and Jonathan.

A celebration of life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lake Beulah Sailing School or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - East Troy, WI
